1. Nathaniel Rix 2d, son of Nathaniel Rix and Mary Peters, was born on 17 Jul 1753 in Boscawen, , NH and died on 12 Oct 1828 in Littleton, , NH at age 75.
Biographical Sketch: Nathaniel Rix was born 17 Jul 1755 in Boscawen, New Hampshire, born to Nathaniel and Mary (Peters) Rix. There is some disagreement about where his place was in his family while growing up. Some sources state he was the oldest son. Others, that he was the 5th child and 3d boy. It may be that the 2 oldest boys did not live very long.
In about 1775, Nathaniel married Esther Clark, the daughter of John and Esther (Weeks) Clark. It is not known exactly when or where they married, but shortly afterward, they moved to Landaff, Grafton county, New Hampshire. During the next 22 years in Landaff, 9 of their 11 children were born. They had 6 boys and 3 girls, in Lanadaff before moving to Stanstead, Canada where their last 2 children were born. In Stanstead they bought a large tract of land a few miles from the Stanstead Plane to create a farm. He and his wife stayed in Stanstead until about 1820 when they sold their farm to move to Littleton, New Hampshire, close to their son, Nathaniel.
The Revolutionary War broke out about a year before their first child was born. Nathaniel was a drummer and sergeant in the New Hampshire Militia receiving a pension when he left. He also appears on the rolls of the Massachusetts state regiment.
Nathaniel married Esther Clark in 1775 in Landaff, Grafton, NH. Esther was born on 13 Apr 1758 in Newmarket, , NH and died on 18 Jul 1832 in Littleton, , NH at age 74.

39. William Pitt Rix (George W.2, Nathaniel 2d1) was born on 9 May 1813 in Barnston, Stanstead, Quebec, Canada, England, died on 28 Dec 1895 in VT at age 82, and was buried in Burroughs Falls, Stanstead County, Quebec, Canada.
Biographical Sketch: William Pitt Rix was born in Barnston, Quebec, Canada on May 9, 1813 when Canada was still a British possession. Barnston is about 8-10 miles north of the US-Canadian border and about 30-40 miles west of where the Maine-New Hampshire border meets the Canadian border.
He spent most of his early life in Stanstead County where he married Almeda Fox on October 30, 1838. They had 3 children, Lucretia, Nancy and William R. In 1852 Almeda died. Because one son, William Pitt Rix, Jr., was born after his first wife died and when his second wife was only 10 years old, there is reason to believe he was married to another woman. He then married Victoria Surrell and they had 6 children, Jessie, George W., Almeda P., Sidney R., Florence E., and Ellen N.
In December of 1849 there was a petition to have Stanstead county annexed to the US. Since the 1851 Canadian census for Stanstead county is missing, having William Pitt Rix's signature on this document shows that he was a resident in 1849.
During the American Civil War, on May 24, 1864, William enlisted in Company I, of the 17th Vermont Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded September 30, 1864 and discharged July 14, 1865.

Biographical Sketch: George W. Rix was born about July 27 1864 in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada. His parents were William Pitt Rix and Victoria Surrell Rix. When he was born, parts of Canada still belonged to England or France. This is reflected in early records showing he was born in England. His father is shown in some records as having been born in England while his mother was born in France. It is likely that George grew up speaking both French and English.
Stanstead is a small town on the border of Quebec and Vermont... in fact, it is directly ON the border. The main building in town, the Library and Auditorium, have the entrance in Canada, but the back door is in Vermont. One street in town is in Canada, and has driveways to homes that are in Vermont. Since this is where George grew up, it is not surprising that records showing when he immigrated to the U.S. have not been found.
According to census records, George immigrated in 1885 and was naturalized in 1893. On January 10, 1889, when he married Anna F. Gooch, he was working in Easton, Massachusetts as a heelmaker. He and Anna lived in Brockton, at 16 Clifton Avenue, C. The 'C' at the end of the address implies a multi-family residence, possibly apartments or a house divided into separate living quarters or rooms.
George and Anna had 5 children, Arthur George, William James "Bill", Adella Gertrude, Merton F., and Sarah Randall.
Sidney R. Rix, George's brother, died in September of 1909. Sidney's wife died 10 years earlier, Harrold R. Rix, now an orphan, came to live with his uncle George and their family.
Through the years his family was growing up, George described his work as shoemaker, laborer, farmer, and house leasing with the shoe business and farming being most frequently mentioned.
George died on September 17, 1928 in Weymouth, Massachusetts. His death certificate cites 3 causes of death, 'myocarditis, arterio-sclerosis, chronic arthritis'. He was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wollaston, Massachusetts.
George married Anna Frances Gooch on 10 Jan 1889 in Brockton, Plymouth, MA. Biographical Sketch: Sarah Randall Rix was born on June 5, 1901 to George W. Rix and Anna F. Gooch. She was the youngest of 5 children, 3 older brothers and 1 older sister. She lived in Norwell, Massachusetts from the time she was born until the family moved to Weymouth. When she graduated from high school she got a job as a bookkeeper for an insurance company where she worked until her marriage.
According to family tradition, Sarah met her future husband, Edward White Fearing, because her 3 brothers were friends with his 2 brothers. Sarah Rix and Edward Fearing were married on June 23, 1923 in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
A year later her 1st child, Darthea, was born. One story told to family was that there was a twin, born dead. No evidence has been discovered to either support or deny this statement.
Three years and a move to East Orange, New Jersey accompanied the birth of her only son, Randall White. Another move to South Weymouth, Massachusetts was followed by the birth of another daughter, Sarah Belinda, in 1929. A fourth child, Della Amy, was born the following year.
By 1940 the family had moved to the home at 30 Buckingham Road, in Wollaston, the oldest part of Quincy, Massachusetts. Their last 2 girls, June Stella and Pauline Laura, were born in 1940 & 1943. This is where Sarah and Edward raised their 6 kids. When the yougest two girlswere in high school, they began their search for their home for retirement. This seach led them to a couple of unimproved waterfront lots in Sagamore Beach where a hotel had burned down many years earlier.
This retirement 'cottage' was built with their large family and grandchildren in mind. With the beach right outside the door, Sarah watched the boats and listened to the ship-to-shore broadcasts while sitting at the diningroom table writing letters. She also managed to get out swimming most days spring through fall.
Sarah's husband, Edward, was diagnosed with cancer the summer of 1980 and died the fall of 1981. She stayed at the Sagamore Beach cottage for several years when she sold the cottage and moved to South Carolina to live with her daughter, Della and her family. Sarah finally succumbed to the side effects of diabetes and hypothyroidism on March 6, 1991.
Sarah married Edward White Fearing on 23 Jun 1923 in Weymouth, Norfolk, MA. Edward was born on 2 Jun 1899 in Provincetown, Barnstable, MA, died on 29 Oct 1981 in Sagamore, Barnstable, MA at age 82, and was buried in South Weymouth, Plymouth, MA. The cause of his death was Carcinoma of Colon with Metastases.
